Root Canal Treatment

The aim of root canal treatment (also called endodontic treatment) is to save a tooth that has been badly damaged due to decay, disease or injury.

Infection or inflammation of the nerve can be caused by:

  • Breakdown of a filling or crown
  • Deep decay
  • Trauma
  • Crack or chip in the tooth
  • Extreme wear

Once the root canals have been accessed, they are carefully cleaned, enlarged and shaped. Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial medicine are placed in the canals and then the canals are filled and a restoration is placed to seal the tooth from re-infection.
